Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority Operators of the tall ships Lady Washington & Hawaiian Chieftain The Brig Lady Washington is a full scale reproduction of the first American ship to visit the west coast, and is the Official Ship of the State of Washington. The Ketch Hawaiian Chieftain is a representation of the trading ships, common in the Hawaiian Islands during the late 1700s and early 1800s. These ships sail the west coast together, as floating museums, classrooms, and excursion vessels, for schools, the public, and private groups. HELP WANTED • We are currently seeking Fall and Winter applicants for: • MASTER – This position requires a 100-ton near coastal masters license with a sail endorsement. Experience on traditional vessels preferred. • MATE – A 100-ton near coastal masters license with a sail endorsement and experience on traditional vessels preferred. The ability to communicate clearly with the crew, volunteers, passengers, and the general public required. • ENGINEER – Experience with diesel operation required. Previous maritime experience preferred. • BOSUN – Previous square rig experience a plus. • PURSER – Experience handling money, sales receipts, reports, and recordkeeping required. Experience in retail or hospitality, a plus. • STEWARD – Public and media relations, crowd control, inventory, and recordkeeping experience preferred. • COOK - Previous maritime experience helpful, but not required. • EDUCATION OFFICER – A positive attitude, excellent organizational, leadership and teaching skills are required. Experience in development and implementation of educational programs for middle and high school aged youth a plus. • Previous sailing experience is not necessary for most positions. Most however, do require strong team skills, long hours, physical agility, a good comfort level working aloft and the ability to perform safely a variety of vessel evolutions.
