Corsica, or La Corse, is located about 100 miles off the southeast coast of France in the Mediterranean Sea. The narrow Strait of Bonifacio to the south separates the Italian island of Sardinia from Corsica. The rocky west coast is indented by deep bays flanked by steep, sheer cliffs. While the east side of the island is a fertile alluvial coastal plain, dotted with lagoons and swamps. The 620-mile perimeter of the island is fringed with sandy beaches. |
