General - Puerto de L'Escala is a fishing and yachting harbour lying on the Costa Brava on the NE coast of Spain. It is susceptible to N winds which makes entry difficult and sends swell into the harbour. Position - 42º 07' N 3º 08' E Charts - British Admiralty 1704, 1705 French 4827, 7008, 7505 Spanish 876, 493A Approach & Entrance; The approach and entry require some care due to unmarked, off lying, rocky shoals. From the south - The Cala de Montgo and the Punta Trenca Bracos with a tower on its N side are easily recognisable. Punta de la Clota, with a small fort, lies just to the NE of the harbour. Follow the circular breakwater at 200m until the harbour entrances can be seen. From the north - After the mountainous promontory of Cadaques/Roses the coast is low and flat. The marinas of Sta Margarita and Ampuriabrava will be recognised. The buildings of the town of L'Escala will be seen. Do not cut the corner by the town of L'Escala. Make for the head of Espignon de la Clota on a S course keeping well off the coast. To enter - Approach the head of Espignon de la Clota on a E course and leave it 25m to port Berths - Secure on the visitors pontoon and report to the port captain. Showers at the Club Nautico L'Escala Shopping - Some shops close to Puerto de L'Escala and many more in the town Eating Out - Some restaurants, bars and cafes close to Puerto de L'Escala. There is a restaurant at the Club Nautico L'Escala Local Area - Sandy beaches to the W of the harbour. There are interesting Greco-Roman remains 2 miles away at Empuries. Santa Maria de Vilabertran, the old church at L'Escala, can also be visited.
