Port Esportiou, Tarragona, Catalunya, Spain

General - Port Esportiou lies to the NE of the main port of Tarragona on the Costa Dorada on the E coast of Spain. Visiting yachts should not enter the main harbour but should go to Port Esportiou. Commercial craft have right of way in the approaches to the harbour. Entrance is straightforward but difficult and possibly dangerous in strong winds from the S.

Approach & Entrance;
From the south - The low, flat, sandy coast extend to Cabo Salou, easily recognized by its lighthouse and buildings. Once rounded the city of Tarragona can be seen. In the closer approach the breakwater, cranes and silos of the harbour will be seen. Port Esportiou lies 2 miles from the head of the E breakwater.
From the north - The low, flat sandy beaches are backed by low ranges of hills. These are broken by only the low yellow cliffs of Cabo Gros and Punta Mora. The city of Tarragona will be seen from afar. Port Esportiou lies before the main harbour just SW of a point where the buildings turn inward to skirt the harbour.
