Approach & Entrance;
From the NW - There is a firing range which commences 5 miles to the SE of Mazagon to near Matalascanas, some 12 miles. When active a range safety vessel will call on VHF Ch 16 with a warning to keep clear. From Huelva the first 20 miles of coast is backed by sand dunes. After the resort town of Matalascanas the coastline flattens.
From the SE
- The lighthouse on Punta del Perro is prominent. Stay to seaward of the E cardinal buoy on Bajo Salmedina.
To enter
- Yachts should make for the fairway buoy, El Pero #1. The marina lies 1.3 miles to the SE of this buoy. Make for the breakwater head leaving the two red pillar buoys to port and turn to the SW to enter. Care is needed as the entrance and indeed the marina as a whole is prone to silting

In early 2009, EPPA, the company that runs this facility, made some changes to regulations covering work in boatyards. The exact regulations are unclear and although we requested some clarification we did not receive a response from EPPA. Bottom line is you should assume you, the vessel owner, cannot work on your boat in the yard. Nor can you stay on board the vessel while on the hard. If you want to sub-contract any work to third party companies you should seek conformation from EPPA that the proposed company is approved to do work in the yard.
