Puerto de Soller, Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain

General - A natural harbour on the NW coast of Mallorca set in the midst of spectacular mountainous scenery. Soller is used by commercial vessels, a fishing fleet and the navy. In consequence facilities for yachts are somewhat limited but it is the only port of refuge along the 50 miles of the NW coast of Mallorca. While the entrance is normally easy a NE gale could make it difficult and possibly dangerous.

Approach & Entrance - From the NE follow the coast in a SW direction. Careful pilotage is required as it is easy to confuse the many headlands. In the last 3 miles there are two conspicuous watch towers and the small Islote Sillar will be seen. In the closer approach the two lighthouses on either side of the harbour entrance will be seen. From the SW pass Isla Dragonera and follow the high coast in a NE direction. It should be possible to recognise the following; Caball Bernat which is very high and steep, La Foradada de Miramar and in the closer approach the lighthouses on Cabo Gros and Punta de sa Crue will be seen. To enter approach on a S course and pass between Cabo Gros and Punta de sa Crue then change to a SE course. As soon as the Muelle Commercial shows clear of the Dique Est make a turn towards it.

Berths - Secure stern to the Muelle Commercial, at least 40m from the quay, using 2 anchors if possible in 5m of mud and sand.
