General - Puerto de Vilanova i la Geltru is a large commercial, fishing, ship breaking and yachting Harbour. It is easy to enter and has good shelter inside.

Position - 41º 13' N 1º 44' E

Charts - British Admiralty 1704 French 4827, 7298 Spanish 871, 488A, 4881

Approach & Entrance;
From the south - N of the steep cliffs of Cabo Gros the marinas of Torredembarra, Coma-Ruga and Segur can be identified. The conspicuous power station and chimney at Foix is 2.5 miles W of Puerto de Vilanova i la Geltru. In the close approach the breakwaters can be seen
From the north - Barcelona is easily identified by the mass of buildings. The flat and featureless delta of Rio Llobregat is followed by the hills of the Sierra de la Guardia. After this the breakwaters, factories, apartments and houses of Vilanova i la Geltru will be seen.
To enter - Leave the head of the E breakwater 50m to starboard and enter between the inner breakwaters on a NE course.

Berths - Secure to a pontoon close to the Capitan de Puerto and report to him for a berth

Local Area - 10th century castle and two museums are worth a visit. Excellent sandy beaches on either side of the harbour. Swimming pool at the Club Nautico de Vilanova i la Geltru.
