General - Puerto de Castellon de la Plana is a large commercial and fishing harbour on the E coast of Spain. Entrance is easy and shelter is good. There are no specific provisions for yachts but facilities are adequate Position - 39º 58' N 0º 01' E Charts - British Admiralty 1458, 1701 Spanish 4821, 836, 482 French 7296, 4720 Approach & Entrance; From the south the harbours of Burriana and Sagunto are the only features on the low, flat, sandy coast. The two red and white banded chimneys and the oil refinery flare are easy to spot. A pipeline stretches out from the refinery ending 2.5 miles ESE where tankers anchor, a safewater buoy marks this position. Along the line of the pipeline 1 mile offshore is a floating fuelling berth. Navigation is not permitted between the safewater buoy and the fuel berth but is permitted between the fuel berth and the shore. The lighthouse on the eastern breakwater should then be easy to spot as will the tall blocks of flats behind Puerto de Castellon de la Plana. From the north the high Los Colls at Cabo Oropesa will be identified. In the closer approach the two red and white banded chimneys and the oil refinery flare are easy to spot as is the lighthouse on the eastern breakwater and the tall blocks of flats behind Puerto de Castellon de la Plana. To enter approach from the S and give the head of the E breakwater at least 30m leaving the red buoys to port. Give the head of the W breakwater 50m and steer NWW for the Darsena Commercial. Better shopping in the town of Castellon de la Plana 2 miles away Eating Out - Several restaurants, cafes and bars close to Puerto de Castellon de la Plana. The Club Nautico de Castellon has a restaurant Local Area - Good beach NE of the harbour.
