General - Puerto de Peniscola is set in an attractive bay on the Costa del Azahar on the E coast of Spain. Facilities for yachts are very limited. Position - 40º 21' N 0º 24' E Charts - British Admiralty 1701 Spanish 4841, 837 French 7296 4720 Approach & Entrance; From the south - After Cabo Oropesa the coast is low and flat. Sierra Benet, a long line of rocky hills, stretches to the harbour. From a distance the castle at Peniscola appears as if on an island. From the north - The harbours of Vinaroz and Benicarlo are readily identified on what is otherwise a featureless coast. From a distance the castle at Peniscola appears as if on an island. To enter - Approach the head of the E breakwater to some 50m as the breakwater extends a further 25m from what can be seen above the water. Follow this breakwater in a NE direction to the harbour entrance.
