|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
General - Saplaya Marina, also known as Puerto de Alboraya, is a purpose built marina just to the north of Valencia on the E coast of Spain. Approach and entry are easy in all but strong winds and swell from the N - SE when it could be dangerous. Shelter is good once inside. Position - 39º 31' N 0º 19' W Charts - British Admiralty 518, 1701 Spanish 4811, 481A, 476, 481, 835 French 7276, 4719, 4720. Approach & Entrance - From the S Saplaya Marina lies 3 miles N of the huge breakwaters of Valencia harbour. The high rise blocks of flats that are part of the marina development will be seen from past Valencia. Closer in the rocky breakwaters running out from the beach will be seen. The second of these has a light at its head, do not confuse this with one of the entry breakwaters that lie 100m to the N. From the N Puerto de Sagunto can be identified by the 1700m long jetty extending from beside the harbour. In the closer approach the high blocks of flats and the breakwaters of Saplaya Marina are easily recognized. To enter approach on a NW course sounding continuously as entrance is prone to silting. Enter leaving the head of the E breakwater 15m to starboard and follow it around and into the marina.. Berths - Secure alongside the quay on the port hand side and ask at the Club Nautico. Shopping - Small supermarket and shops in the complex of Saplaya Marina Eating Out - Several restaurants, cafes and bars in the complex of Saplaya Marina Local Area - Sandy beaches to either side of the marina. There are good bus and rail services to Valencia and this is probably a better option than the marina at Valencia to explore Spain's third largest city.
