The Maldives lie in the Indian Ocean just north of the equator and to the south of India and Sri Lanka. El Nino devastated Maldives reefs in 1998 but marine life continued to flourish and the reefs are already recovering. Compared to the long term and irreversible damage caused by mass tourism and overdevelopment in many overcrowded coastal resorts, El Nino was an insignificant blip on the Maldives timeline. Those on a dive charter will enjoy the crystal clear waters and the pinnacles, drop offs and reefs are teeming with marine life.
