Approach and Entrance - Before entering, call the harbour master (VHF channel 80) for berth allocation. If this is not possible, berth initially on the fuel pontoon opposite the entrance.

Approach is via a RW striped safe water buoy in the Orwell estuary, 400m due south of the harbour entrance. From this, proceed via a 2.5m (mlws) dredged channel, marked by port and starboard hand fixed piles, to the harbour entrance. Beware of tidal currents flowing across the entrance channel. Once through the entrance, turn to starboard for the main harbour (pontoons A-Q) or to port for the west harbour (ponrtoons W).

Be aware that most of the pontoons (esp fingers) utilise rectangular upright fixed 'hoops' rather than the more normal cleats or bollards.

The facility can be entered in all states of tide.

Berths & Moorings - The marina has a capacity of 550 fully serviced berths - including 50 'big boat' positions for yachts up to 60ft long and a maximum draft of 2.5 metres. There are approximately 50 swinging moorings adjacent to the Harbour in the River Orwell.. It is not known if reservations can be made.

Maximum length - 25m.

Water - On the pontoons.

Boatyard Facilities & Services - Suffolk Yacht Harbour has its own boatyard, maintenance, repair and chandlery facilities.

Vessels up to 60 tons can be launched or recovered with the range of boat lifts and two slipways. A large area of hard standing, serviced with electricity and water, is available. Repairs are carried out primarily in GRP & wood. Quite a few 'classic' wooden yachts have been renovated here in recent years as well as the more prevalent GRP boats, so top quality woodworking is available. A wide range of finishes can be applied in the temperature and humidity controlled spray shop (Awlgrip approved 2000). High quality independent businesses on site complement the harbour’s own facilities.

Shopping and Provisions - The on site chandlery carries a small range of food, beers, wine & basic household items. Some provisions can be obtained in Levington. Better shopping in Ipswich.

Bank or ATM - Not known.

Chandlers or Ships' Store - The on site chandlery is generally well stocked for fitting out or repairs. Bottled gas is stocked. It also carries a small range of food, beers, wine & basic household items.
