Lake Ontario is bounded on the north and southwest by the province of Ontario, and on the south by the American state of New York. In the Wyandot (Huron) language, ontarío means "Lake of Shining Waters". It is the last in the Great Lakes chain and serves as the outlet to the Atlantic Ocean via the St. Lawrence River.
Customs - It is a legal requirement that all persons seeking entry into Canada report to Canada Customs. This includes all foreign visitors and returning Canadian residents. Upon arrival, call 1 888 CANPASS (1 888 226 7277). To aviod delays, have your vessel documentation, and passenger information, including full name, birthday and address ready. Failure to report in could result in a fine.
All Ontario boaters are now required to have the Pleasure Craft Operator Card in order to operate a powered watercraft. There are no age exemptions, this law applies to all boaters. Powered watercraft includes watercraft fitted with any size motor, even a trolling motor
