Castillo De San Marcos.is a fort begun in 1672 and constructed of native coquina rock. Very good bargain and lots of history. Be sure to take the ghost walk Mission of Nombre De Dios is located on the west bank of Matanzas Bay, this historic site was the site of the first Catholic mass in the United States Fort Matanzas was built by the Spanish in the early 1740s to guard the Matanzas Inlet and to allow warning should the British attempt invasion. A free ferry runs to the Fort which has a nature trail. Museums, Galleries and Cultural Attractions - Old Florida Museum in the old town jail.
